Wisconsin Governor Scott beats recall

As I write this Tuesday night, Governor Scott Walker has soundly beat a recall vote. Gun owners will recall that Walker, after years of vetoes by former Governor Jim Doyle, signed Wisconsin's handgun carry bill into law.

What now? It appears to me that this race is a precursor of the most important race in my lifetime. It will be challenger Governor Mitt Romney vs incumbent Barack Obama.

The honest truth is we don't know exactly what Romney will do if he is elected, but based on his recent history, we can be sure that Obama, if reelected, will have an influence on this great nation far after he has left office. We can say, with reasonable assuredness that he will change the mix in the Supreme Court. We had 5-4 decisions in both the Heller and McDonald cases. These cases, respectively, recognized the right to keep arms in Federal Enclaves (Heller) and the several states (McDonald). A different mix in the court, as assured by Obama if reelected, will push the pendulum back in the other direction.

Additionally, Obama has significantly accelerated this nation along the continuum from capitalism to fascism to socialism. Can the Republic bear four more years of such progress? I think not.

To all my friends who are loyal supporters of Dr. Ron Paul, the reality is that Paul simply can't win this election. So, PLEASE think carefully, and ask yourself if it is worth it to follow your heart and vote for Paul (if he becomes a third party candidate), or will it serve the greater good if you get behind Romney and defeat Obama. Which is worth more to you?

Students Take Aim at College Gun Bans

From Students for Concealed Carry

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 3 April 2012
Students Take Aim at College Gun Bans
April 3, 2012 — Seven students were gunned down yesterday morning in California on
the same day that a national protest began to raise awareness about students being left
helpless against such murderers.
The national Empty Holster Protest, organized by Students for Concealed Carry,
involves students strapping on empty holsters to illustrate their defenselessness at the
hands of college gun bans. The event runs through April 6 and involves hundreds of
college campuses across the US.
“This is a poignant and ironic example of the very thing we’re protesting,” said David
Burnett, the group’s spokesman. “Colleges invite these shootings by guaranteeing
criminals their victims will be disarmed. It takes more than signs to fend off killers.”
Although the details of the massacre are still unclear, it remains apparent that
prohibitions against firearms were completely ineffective. Over 20 such college
shootings have occurred on so-called “gun-free” campuses since 2001. At the same time,
more than 200 campuses in six states allow students to carry handguns to class without
experiencing any such rampages.
“Gun-free zones are defense-free zones,” said Burnett. “Since our colleges can’t
guarantee our safety, it’s time for them to allow us a fighting chance and decriminalize
self-defense.”

Gun owners buycott Starbucks on Valentine's Day

The National Gun Victims Action Council has called for a boycott of Starbucks on Valentine's Day, February 14. This hoplophobic organization is trying to convince Starbucks to post their stores against lawful citizen carry of firearms. These folks are laboring under the illusion that signs will prevent criminal acts.

The fact is that as handgun ownership and carry have increased in the United States, the violent crime rate has gone down, as Professor John Lott documents in his well researched books, More Guns mean Less Crime.
Lawful gun carriers and owners across the fruited plain are responding with a BUY-COTT at Starbucks on Valentine's Day, with plans to make a purchase, and thank Starbucks for their "non-policy" concerning guns. you can thank the corporate offices HERE.

See you there!

Sheep, sheepdog, or . . . porcupine?

The idea of sheep, sheepdogs, and wolves describing most of us has been advanced by Lt. Col Dave Grossman:
The sheep are the everyday citizens who go about their business clueless to what's happening around them.
The wolves are the human predators who prey on these sheep.
The sheepdogs are the ones who protect the sheep.

Then, there are the armed citizens who realize that the sheepdogs are not always nearby, and may have to fend of attacks by the wolves. I have not known of a good descriptive name for these, until this week.

This Sunday I heard a caller, Rex, on Tom Gresham's Guntalk describe himself as a porcupine. His statement went something like this, "I'm kind of a porcupine, you know ..., I just amble along,..., I don't feel a responsibility to protect someone who won't protect themselves,...., but you don't want to mess with me..."

Tom says, "I like it."

So do I!

What do you think?

Take action for safer parking lots in Tennessee

From TFA

TFA Email Campaign on Employee Safe Commute Legislation
URGENT - the link/page below is directly to the action center on the TFA website. This page will allow you (and all your friends) to send emails to the Tennessee General Assembly (your individual legislators + all members of both judiciary committees + the governor) telling them how YOU feel about the EMPLOYEE SAFE COMMUTE bill (a/k/a parking lots bill).
It is important that we let our voices be heard - by the thousands - to support this bill because it is almost certain that Speaker Beth Harwell and others who are "first and foremost aligned with Big Business" will try to stop this legislation. It is going to require that we call upon the conservative legislators (not necessarily equal to ALL of the GOP) in both houses and in both parties to carry this bill to law. It will have substantial resistance by those with large and powerful PACS.
Please go to this site now and take less than a minute to participate.  Then, forward this message to every email list that would be interested in this change in the law.  Next, post this campaign and link on every web forum, blog or bulletin board whose members  you believe may have an interest in this change in the law.

2012 March for life, Knoxville, Tennessee

Historically, mass killings have only been possible when done by, or with the complicity of governments, as in the Nazi killing of 6 million Jews, plus untold millions of others.

In the United States, since Roe v Wade in 1973, we have lost the populations of New York, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee combined, about 54 million people to abortion.

Yesterday, Knox County Mayor was the guest speaker at the Knoxville 2012 March for Life.

The Bible teaches that human life is different from other types of life, because human beings are made in the very image of God.
Genesis 1:26-31: "God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them"

The Bible teaches that children are a blessing from God.
Psalm 127:3: "Truly children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward" .

The Bible teaches that the child in the womb is truly a human child, who even has a relationship with the Lord.
Psalm 139:13,15: "You knit me in my mother’s womb . . . nor was my frame unknown to you when I was made in secret"

The Bible repeatedly condemns the killing of the innocent.
Psalm 106:35, 37-38:  "They mingled with the nations and learned their works…They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, and they shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, desecrating the land with bloodshed"
2 Kings 17:17-18:"They mutilated their sons and daughters by fire…till the Lord, in his great anger against Israel, put them away out of his sight"

The Bible teaches that John the Baptist, while in the womb, heard and recognized Mary's voice.
Luke 1:41: At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Bible teaches that it is wrong for one to take payment for killing an innocent person.
Deuteronomy 27: ‘Cursed is anyone who accepts payment to kill an innocent person.’ And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Big Question:
How can we on the one hand, sanction abortion at the hands of paid practitioners, and on the other hand charge the murderer of a pregnant woman with a double homicide?

Ruger LCR-22 yes, SR-22 no

Ruger has introduced three new .22 caliber handguns in recent weeks.

First, the LCR-22, which is an eight shot, .22LR version of their LCR (.38 Special or hand torturing .357 magnum.) This little revolver makes tremendous sense as a low recoil training companion to the the centerfire LCR's. And, it makes sense as a defensive handgun for those who can't tolerate the recoil of the centerfire versions.
Secondly, the just introduced the SR22, which looks at first glance like a Walther P-22. Now, this one doesn't excite me at all. With the SR name, I wonder why they did not make it a sub-caliber equivalent of their excellent SR9/SR40. It woulda, coulda shoulda been an excellent training pistol for those centerfire pistols. I am sure it will prove to be good Ruger quality, but I think they missed the mark with this one.

Ruger also introduced the SP101 in .22LR. This would be a good choice for those who like a .22 revolver with more heft.

Oh, and I am still waiting for their .22Magnum pistol.

What do you think?

Recently, I did a post on the SOG Flash II. I have since come across a ten minute YouTube review of this knife by Nutnfancy. He gives it a good review HERE. Enjoy!

SOG Flash II

The SOG Flash II is a folding, assisted opening knife with a blade under 4" It is available at Amazon with free Super Saver Shipping, and there are several models to choose from, most under $50.00.

Assisted opening knives have a spring that opens the blade, once you have started it. The Flash II has ambidextrous studs on the blade, making it easy to open with either hand.

To close, the small button in the side of the handle is moved toward the heel of the handle to unlock the blade, then the blade is folded back into the handle. There is a safety in the handle, if you choose to use it.

There is a pocket hook for those that want to hang it in the pocket.

Some states have a blade limit of four inches, and this one complies with those requirements. Other states prohibit knives of this type. Caution is advised.

I have had this knife several years, and really like it. There is a smaller version, too, the Flash I.

Zebra F-701 Pen

The Zebra F-701 is just a ball point pen, but it has a thick-walled stainless barrel, and could be pressed into service as a last ditch weapon.

It has several added advantages. It is inexpensive, as seen here at Amazon. It is not billed as 'tactical', and should be airport friendly. It is also available at WMT.

For your inner geek, check out the Gear Journal modifications. It is called the $5.00 tactical pen by The Firearms Blog. H/T to MJM for the heads-up on The Firearms Blog.

I use one every day.

Tennessee 6th senatorial district race - final days

News reports indicate that early voting turnout has been poor. Once again, a lethargic electorate is on the verge of letting other people control the legislative process, leaving only themselves to blame. . .

This election could very well turn on which candidate can mobilize their base the best  - - and the best may not have to be all that good.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel reported today on some issues they surveyed the candidates on. I will touch on one, the 'guns on campus' question.

A bill before the legislature would allow citizens (specifically campus employees) with carry permits to carry handguns on college campuses.

Their responses to the News Sentinel Survey go like this,
DeFreese said she supports that. Roddy and Massey said they favor letting administrators of each campus decide the rules.
These survey answers point to major differences among the candidates. Roddy and Massey, understanding that left-leaning college administrators are unlikely to authorize campus carry at all, indicate support for the status quo disarming of victims.

Defreese's response indicates that she understands what fundamental rights are all about.

At a recent Examiner column, I noted DeFreese's responses to a gun rights questionnaire, and the other candidates's failure to respond.

I noted in that column that Roddy favors disarming women in some locations such as parks, and now we know she includes college campuses.

Massey's web site indicates support for the Second Amendment in the home. Her response to the News-Sentinel question indicates she also favors disarming adult voters on college campuses. The question is, where does she stand on right to carry in other venues?

A recent look at campaign disclosures showed Massey and Roddy way ahead on fund  raising. It seems like DeFreese's best chance of winning this race is mobilization of her supporters.

With such a low turnout in early voting, if voters will look for the candidate with core beliefs; who supports the right to life of unborn children; who supports the right to personal defense; the answer becomes clear.

DeFreese is the only choice!

Knoxville mayoral right to life survey

Tennessee Right to Life surveyed the Knoxville mayoral candidates regarding pro-life legislation. The link the results can be found HERE.

Note that Bennett, Padgett, and Rogero did not answer the survey.

Does anybody know where any of them stand?

Let me know.
