Identification friend or foe

In telecommunicationsidentification, friend or foe (IFF) is an identification system designed for command and control.  It enables military and national (civilian-located ATC) interrogation systems to identify aircraft, vehicles or forces as friendly and to determine their bearing and range from the interrogator. (from Wikipedia).

Now, defensive handgun carriers can access a database map that shows carry friendly and unfriendly locations. It is known as-

 Friend or Foe

Be sure to:
1. check the list before you go.
2. check the doors every where you go (situations change).
3. post your observations to the map.

Farragut guns in parks - call to action

Dear friends,

I am forwarding the following email from Bob Markli, a Town of Farragut Alderman. Your help is needed to show the other aldermen and mayor that there are many of us who support the right to meaningful self defense, which should not stop at the boundaries of the parks our taxes pay for.

Please plan to attend the workshop this Thursday. Please forward this to all of like mind. You don't have to be a resident of Farragut to attend.

Liston Matthews
316-6486

Fellow citizens,

Thanks to your efforts in writing your elected officials, a workshop is scheduled for a discussion on rescinding the current ban on lawful carry permit holders exercise of their constitutional and lawful right in the Town of Farragut parks that our tax dollars support. This workshop will occur from 6:00PM until 6:55PM just before the regular Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting on this Thursday, September 26. The meeting will be open to the public.

I am encouraging each of you to commit yourselves to being in that audience and to encourage as many of your friends and family as possible to be there as well to show support for this common sense correction of a poor decision made in 2009 by the Board. Because of the media propaganda surrounding second amendment issues, many elected officials mistakenly believe pro-liberty issues are politically unpopular. Let's help them see that a tiny, pathetic, insignificant and misguided minority cannot dictate policy against the liberties of free Americans.

Yours for liberty,
Bob Markli

Mt. Juliet, Tennessee city employees to pack heat?

John Lott informs us that the City of Mt. Juliet may soon allow employees to carry firearms on the job, provided they have handgun carry permits.

While I am not at all opposed to the idea, this ordinance will create a special class of citizen.Shouldn't the citizens who pay their salaries have the same privilege. What about equal protection under the law?

Lambs without a fence, shepherds without slings

Tomorrow morning, millions of families will send their children off to school. These little lambs are entrusted to their school staff to shepherd them safely through the school day.

But, the lone wolf predator lurks at the edge of the flock, looking for prey to satisfy his evil desire for blood. This lone wolf my be deranged, but he is not entirely stupid. He recognizes the fact that the shepherds don't have slings, the No Slings signs rob the shepherds of any effective means of defeating the predator. Sheep dogs are at best ten minutes away and expensive to keep, and the lambfold becomes a slaughterhouse for the lone wolf.

Some adult sheep, who have an irrational fear of slings, insist that it would be b-a-a-a-d for shepherds to have slings. They bleat that the lambs would not feel good with slings in the fold. They think that a shepherd with an advanced degree can't learn how to effectively use a sling. But sheep David G of NBC sends his little lambs to a school surrounded by sheepdogs; while he has a pouch that holds thirty stones, and surrounds himself with sheepdogs.

Will these sheep continue to have their way, with the same results as in the past? Or will the states pass legislation to allow the shepherds to effectively protect the little lambs?

The electric toothbrush

My electric toothbrush operates for two minutes exactly, then shuts off. Some nights, two minutes seems like an eternity.

Police response time to 911 calls is five times that, about ten minutes. Nobody's fault, that's just the way it is.

Why do some people insist that our children, involuntarily placed in gun free zones (our public schools) wait those ten minutes after the predator has arrived and begun his slaughter?

Law enforcement officers are now trained that the first on the scene goes on in, not waiting for backup. This is to minimize the carnage perpetrated by the predator. Armed and trained teachers, volunteers, and police on the scene can reduce the carnage even more by further reducing the lag time.

Think about that the next time you brush your teeth!

Are Tennessee Republicans paying attention?

The national GOP party platform is very supportive of 2nd Amendment firearms rights. If R&R sweep into office, and get a majority in both the House and Senate, I fully expect National Reciprocity to pass.

Meanwhile, back in Tennessee, the leadership of the Republican Party took the position that a good citizen, who has had a background check, been fingerprinted, and ID'd, can't be trusted to take a gun back and forth to work and leave it locked in the car. They seem to think, not unlike the national leadership of the other party, that lawful gun owners are just one argument away from becoming a mass murderer.

This same leadership has steadfastly refused to bring Constitutional Carry to pass in Tennessee. I suppose they think us hillbillies aren't to be trusted. Not like those folks in Vermont, Alaska, Arizona, and Wyoming, whose natural right to self protection has been codified into law. These states' leadership recognize that inherent, God-given right to self preservation with the most useful tool, the handgun; without having to get a permission slip from the state.

The National Rifle Association and Tennessee Firearms Association took a stand against the Tennessee Republican leadership; supported, and helped Courtney Rogers soundly beat part of that leadership, Debra Maggert.

The remainder of the leadership can pay attention now, or pay attention later, when their colleagues are steadily picked off by TFA and NRA.

Tennessee House leader Maggert loses to pro-gun challenger

Thursday, in a hotly contested Republican primary race, Debra Maggert lost to challenger Courtney Rogers. The back story is that the current Republican leadership made big promises to gun advocates, but after taking the majority of seats in the House, forgot who brung them to the dance.

The NRA and Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA) both jumped into this race, and aided Rogers. Here is  TFA's Executive Director, John Harris, in a post-election interview(a little over three minutes):

Here's the deal, gun rights advocates will continue to replace politicians who make big promises, then turn their backs on us when they get into office.

The Speaker and her cronies should take a lesson from this.

Gun owners buycott Starbucks on Valentine's Day

The National Gun Victims Action Council has called for a boycott of Starbucks on Valentine's Day, February 14. This hoplophobic organization is trying to convince Starbucks to post their stores against lawful citizen carry of firearms. These folks are laboring under the illusion that signs will prevent criminal acts.

The fact is that as handgun ownership and carry have increased in the United States, the violent crime rate has gone down, as Professor John Lott documents in his well researched books, More Guns mean Less Crime.
Lawful gun carriers and owners across the fruited plain are responding with a BUY-COTT at Starbucks on Valentine's Day, with plans to make a purchase, and thank Starbucks for their "non-policy" concerning guns. you can thank the corporate offices HERE.

See you there!

Take action for safer parking lots in Tennessee

From TFA

TFA Email Campaign on Employee Safe Commute Legislation
URGENT - the link/page below is directly to the action center on the TFA website. This page will allow you (and all your friends) to send emails to the Tennessee General Assembly (your individual legislators + all members of both judiciary committees + the governor) telling them how YOU feel about the EMPLOYEE SAFE COMMUTE bill (a/k/a parking lots bill).
It is important that we let our voices be heard - by the thousands - to support this bill because it is almost certain that Speaker Beth Harwell and others who are "first and foremost aligned with Big Business" will try to stop this legislation. It is going to require that we call upon the conservative legislators (not necessarily equal to ALL of the GOP) in both houses and in both parties to carry this bill to law. It will have substantial resistance by those with large and powerful PACS.
Please go to this site now and take less than a minute to participate.  Then, forward this message to every email list that would be interested in this change in the law.  Next, post this campaign and link on every web forum, blog or bulletin board whose members  you believe may have an interest in this change in the law.

Tennessee 6th senatorial district race - final days

News reports indicate that early voting turnout has been poor. Once again, a lethargic electorate is on the verge of letting other people control the legislative process, leaving only themselves to blame. . .

This election could very well turn on which candidate can mobilize their base the best  - - and the best may not have to be all that good.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel reported today on some issues they surveyed the candidates on. I will touch on one, the 'guns on campus' question.

A bill before the legislature would allow citizens (specifically campus employees) with carry permits to carry handguns on college campuses.

Their responses to the News Sentinel Survey go like this,
DeFreese said she supports that. Roddy and Massey said they favor letting administrators of each campus decide the rules.
These survey answers point to major differences among the candidates. Roddy and Massey, understanding that left-leaning college administrators are unlikely to authorize campus carry at all, indicate support for the status quo disarming of victims.

Defreese's response indicates that she understands what fundamental rights are all about.

At a recent Examiner column, I noted DeFreese's responses to a gun rights questionnaire, and the other candidates's failure to respond.

I noted in that column that Roddy favors disarming women in some locations such as parks, and now we know she includes college campuses.

Massey's web site indicates support for the Second Amendment in the home. Her response to the News-Sentinel question indicates she also favors disarming adult voters on college campuses. The question is, where does she stand on right to carry in other venues?

A recent look at campaign disclosures showed Massey and Roddy way ahead on fund  raising. It seems like DeFreese's best chance of winning this race is mobilization of her supporters.

With such a low turnout in early voting, if voters will look for the candidate with core beliefs; who supports the right to life of unborn children; who supports the right to personal defense; the answer becomes clear.

DeFreese is the only choice!

Legal in Tennessee?

In a previous post, I noted that a baseball bat is not a viable weapon of defense in Tennessee, because it is not legal. It would easily fall under the legal definition of club.

So, what to do, if you don't have a handgun carry permit, or are going into a gun free zone. Do you suppose the lights might go out while you are in there? Then carry a flashlight. The MAGLITE, available from Amazon or your local store is one choice.

Hold it by the light end if you need to swing it. Find some training in its use if you can. Stay in condition Yellow when you are out and about.

The best thing to do is avoid a fight whenever possible, but . . . if you can't, a solid flashlight is better than a snowball, don't you think?
