Preaching from the baptistry without a license?

Today, I witnessed someone be baptized in my church. The person read a statement, which, although lengthy, recounted some of the person's history. Then the person launched into a leftist gun-ban diatribe which was totally out of place. This person obviously thinks firearms types that have been available for a hundred years have suddenly become living, breathing organisms with malevolent intent.

The only effective way to deal with armed school invasions is to meet force with superior force very quickly. This means arming teachers and volunteers. School police officers are great, but too few, and spread out.

Read more on effective response to school invasions in my Examiner column HERE.

At Examiner: Are guns OK at Chick-fil-A?

Some stores and businesses post against handgun carry by law-abiding citizens, creating hazard-free work zones for criminals. Others recognize that the law-abiding citizen is part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Are Tennessee Republicans paying attention?

The national GOP party platform is very supportive of 2nd Amendment firearms rights. If R&R sweep into office, and get a majority in both the House and Senate, I fully expect National Reciprocity to pass.

Meanwhile, back in Tennessee, the leadership of the Republican Party took the position that a good citizen, who has had a background check, been fingerprinted, and ID'd, can't be trusted to take a gun back and forth to work and leave it locked in the car. They seem to think, not unlike the national leadership of the other party, that lawful gun owners are just one argument away from becoming a mass murderer.

This same leadership has steadfastly refused to bring Constitutional Carry to pass in Tennessee. I suppose they think us hillbillies aren't to be trusted. Not like those folks in Vermont, Alaska, Arizona, and Wyoming, whose natural right to self protection has been codified into law. These states' leadership recognize that inherent, God-given right to self preservation with the most useful tool, the handgun; without having to get a permission slip from the state.

The National Rifle Association and Tennessee Firearms Association took a stand against the Tennessee Republican leadership; supported, and helped Courtney Rogers soundly beat part of that leadership, Debra Maggert.

The remainder of the leadership can pay attention now, or pay attention later, when their colleagues are steadily picked off by TFA and NRA.

Who's your daddy?

Today, I read in the local newspaper about the "division" among Tennessee Republicans over the proposed Republican platform plank, which, according to the article in The Tennesseean,* states that

The GOP platform calls for outlawing abortion in all circumstances. No exceptions.

This prompted me to write, with a heavy heart, this little satirical piece:

My Dear Child,

I know you will find this hard to understand, but it is very important that we know who your daddy is.

You see, if he is married to your mommy, then that's good. If your mommy and daddy are partners and you are what we called in the old days a love child, I can go with that.

But you see, if your daddy is some stranger who came in the window one night and brutally attacked your  mommy, and in the process, you were conceived, then, . . . well you see, don't you?

You see, if they catch your daddy, then he will be, hopefully, locked up for a few years, and when he gets out, I am sure he will be rehabilitated, and never do that again. And maybe your mommy will eventually forget about that terrible night and about you.

If your daddy is also your cousin, then I am sure you would not want to be embarrassed by having him around at birthday parties and Christmas, and, well, again, . . . it would be very uncomfortable for all of us, don't your see?

You do understand that I am pro-life, don't you?

                                                                  Your loving uncle,
                                                                  P. C.

It seems that in much of our society it is of grave importance who your daddy is, because, if he is the wrong person, you become the second victim in this terrible chain of events.

Your daddy gets jail time, maybe,
and you get the death penalty.

Tennessee House leader Maggert loses to pro-gun challenger

Thursday, in a hotly contested Republican primary race, Debra Maggert lost to challenger Courtney Rogers. The back story is that the current Republican leadership made big promises to gun advocates, but after taking the majority of seats in the House, forgot who brung them to the dance.

The NRA and Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA) both jumped into this race, and aided Rogers. Here is  TFA's Executive Director, John Harris, in a post-election interview(a little over three minutes):

Here's the deal, gun rights advocates will continue to replace politicians who make big promises, then turn their backs on us when they get into office.

The Speaker and her cronies should take a lesson from this.

Only down side, music was too loud.

A little overwhelming

Eating a late breakfast at Chick-fil-A. It is very busy for 10 am.

So, I ask the manager, "How's business today?"

"A little overwhelming!" he says.

Bless the Lord and all His people turning out today!

I chatted briefly with the Neal family who had driven in from Kingston to show their support for Chick- fil-A.

Get off the fence

Today, the Supremes ruled on Obamacare, upholding the power of the Congress to require that we purchase health insurance. With Chief Justice Roberts swinging widely to the left, we will find out in the coming days the full ramifications of this ruling.

Enter Mitt Romney. What will he do regarding universal health care, considering this closely mirrors his Massachusetts plan. I dunno. He says that on his first day in office, he will do what the court did not do (repeal Obamacare). We'll see.

But I do know this. If Obama is reelected, we will see more Kagans and Sotomayors sitting on the bench for life. With Mitt, we can only speculate.

Looking at the firearms issue, on the other hand, we have this history of Obama-
  • Fast and Furious - Hundreds of Mexicans and two Federal agents are dead as a result of The ATF's gun walking scheme (This story was broken by fellow bloggers David Codrea and Mike Vanderbeogh, not Cheryl Atkinson of CBS).
  • Long gun sale reporting to ATF in contravention of Federal law in border states.
  • Support of UN gun banning schemes.
  • Obama's support for reinstatement and extension of Clinton's Goldilocks gun ban.
  • Obama's historical opposition to lawful handgun carry by good citizens (the Chicago plan).

We have historically been saddled with the choice of voting for what we call the 'lesser of two evils'. That's still a little less evil.

So, conservative, get off the fence, get the splinters out, and vote R in November.

Wisconsin Governor Scott beats recall

As I write this Tuesday night, Governor Scott Walker has soundly beat a recall vote. Gun owners will recall that Walker, after years of vetoes by former Governor Jim Doyle, signed Wisconsin's handgun carry bill into law.

What now? It appears to me that this race is a precursor of the most important race in my lifetime. It will be challenger Governor Mitt Romney vs incumbent Barack Obama.

The honest truth is we don't know exactly what Romney will do if he is elected, but based on his recent history, we can be sure that Obama, if reelected, will have an influence on this great nation far after he has left office. We can say, with reasonable assuredness that he will change the mix in the Supreme Court. We had 5-4 decisions in both the Heller and McDonald cases. These cases, respectively, recognized the right to keep arms in Federal Enclaves (Heller) and the several states (McDonald). A different mix in the court, as assured by Obama if reelected, will push the pendulum back in the other direction.

Additionally, Obama has significantly accelerated this nation along the continuum from capitalism to fascism to socialism. Can the Republic bear four more years of such progress? I think not.

To all my friends who are loyal supporters of Dr. Ron Paul, the reality is that Paul simply can't win this election. So, PLEASE think carefully, and ask yourself if it is worth it to follow your heart and vote for Paul (if he becomes a third party candidate), or will it serve the greater good if you get behind Romney and defeat Obama. Which is worth more to you?

Students Take Aim at College Gun Bans

From Students for Concealed Carry

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 3 April 2012
Students Take Aim at College Gun Bans
April 3, 2012 — Seven students were gunned down yesterday morning in California on
the same day that a national protest began to raise awareness about students being left
helpless against such murderers.
The national Empty Holster Protest, organized by Students for Concealed Carry,
involves students strapping on empty holsters to illustrate their defenselessness at the
hands of college gun bans. The event runs through April 6 and involves hundreds of
college campuses across the US.
“This is a poignant and ironic example of the very thing we’re protesting,” said David
Burnett, the group’s spokesman. “Colleges invite these shootings by guaranteeing
criminals their victims will be disarmed. It takes more than signs to fend off killers.”
Although the details of the massacre are still unclear, it remains apparent that
prohibitions against firearms were completely ineffective. Over 20 such college
shootings have occurred on so-called “gun-free” campuses since 2001. At the same time,
more than 200 campuses in six states allow students to carry handguns to class without
experiencing any such rampages.
“Gun-free zones are defense-free zones,” said Burnett. “Since our colleges can’t
guarantee our safety, it’s time for them to allow us a fighting chance and decriminalize
self-defense.”

Gun owners buycott Starbucks on Valentine's Day

The National Gun Victims Action Council has called for a boycott of Starbucks on Valentine's Day, February 14. This hoplophobic organization is trying to convince Starbucks to post their stores against lawful citizen carry of firearms. These folks are laboring under the illusion that signs will prevent criminal acts.

The fact is that as handgun ownership and carry have increased in the United States, the violent crime rate has gone down, as Professor John Lott documents in his well researched books, More Guns mean Less Crime.
Lawful gun carriers and owners across the fruited plain are responding with a BUY-COTT at Starbucks on Valentine's Day, with plans to make a purchase, and thank Starbucks for their "non-policy" concerning guns. you can thank the corporate offices HERE.

See you there!

Sheep, sheepdog, or . . . porcupine?

The idea of sheep, sheepdogs, and wolves describing most of us has been advanced by Lt. Col Dave Grossman:
The sheep are the everyday citizens who go about their business clueless to what's happening around them.
The wolves are the human predators who prey on these sheep.
The sheepdogs are the ones who protect the sheep.

Then, there are the armed citizens who realize that the sheepdogs are not always nearby, and may have to fend of attacks by the wolves. I have not known of a good descriptive name for these, until this week.

This Sunday I heard a caller, Rex, on Tom Gresham's Guntalk describe himself as a porcupine. His statement went something like this, "I'm kind of a porcupine, you know ..., I just amble along,..., I don't feel a responsibility to protect someone who won't protect themselves,...., but you don't want to mess with me..."

Tom says, "I like it."

So do I!

What do you think?

Take action for safer parking lots in Tennessee

From TFA

TFA Email Campaign on Employee Safe Commute Legislation
URGENT - the link/page below is directly to the action center on the TFA website. This page will allow you (and all your friends) to send emails to the Tennessee General Assembly (your individual legislators + all members of both judiciary committees + the governor) telling them how YOU feel about the EMPLOYEE SAFE COMMUTE bill (a/k/a parking lots bill).
It is important that we let our voices be heard - by the thousands - to support this bill because it is almost certain that Speaker Beth Harwell and others who are "first and foremost aligned with Big Business" will try to stop this legislation. It is going to require that we call upon the conservative legislators (not necessarily equal to ALL of the GOP) in both houses and in both parties to carry this bill to law. It will have substantial resistance by those with large and powerful PACS.
Please go to this site now and take less than a minute to participate.  Then, forward this message to every email list that would be interested in this change in the law.  Next, post this campaign and link on every web forum, blog or bulletin board whose members  you believe may have an interest in this change in the law.

2012 March for life, Knoxville, Tennessee

Historically, mass killings have only been possible when done by, or with the complicity of governments, as in the Nazi killing of 6 million Jews, plus untold millions of others.

In the United States, since Roe v Wade in 1973, we have lost the populations of New York, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee combined, about 54 million people to abortion.

Yesterday, Knox County Mayor was the guest speaker at the Knoxville 2012 March for Life.

The Bible teaches that human life is different from other types of life, because human beings are made in the very image of God.
Genesis 1:26-31: "God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them"

The Bible teaches that children are a blessing from God.
Psalm 127:3: "Truly children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward" .

The Bible teaches that the child in the womb is truly a human child, who even has a relationship with the Lord.
Psalm 139:13,15: "You knit me in my mother’s womb . . . nor was my frame unknown to you when I was made in secret"

The Bible repeatedly condemns the killing of the innocent.
Psalm 106:35, 37-38:  "They mingled with the nations and learned their works…They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, and they shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, desecrating the land with bloodshed"
2 Kings 17:17-18:"They mutilated their sons and daughters by fire…till the Lord, in his great anger against Israel, put them away out of his sight"

The Bible teaches that John the Baptist, while in the womb, heard and recognized Mary's voice.
Luke 1:41: At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Bible teaches that it is wrong for one to take payment for killing an innocent person.
Deuteronomy 27: ‘Cursed is anyone who accepts payment to kill an innocent person.’ And all the people will reply, ‘Amen.’

Big Question:
How can we on the one hand, sanction abortion at the hands of paid practitioners, and on the other hand charge the murderer of a pregnant woman with a double homicide?

Recently I wrote about the interview between Alex Haddox and Marty Hayes on the use of lethal force. They have done a subsequent interview on what to say and do after the lethal encounter. Listen to the podcast HERE.

You can get all of Alex's podcasts at the Practical Defense Podcast, also available on itunes.

And for reading on the same subject check out After  You Shoot: Your gun's hot. The perp's not. Now what? by Alan Korwin.

Ruger LCR-22 yes, SR-22 no

Ruger has introduced three new .22 caliber handguns in recent weeks.

First, the LCR-22, which is an eight shot, .22LR version of their LCR (.38 Special or hand torturing .357 magnum.) This little revolver makes tremendous sense as a low recoil training companion to the the centerfire LCR's. And, it makes sense as a defensive handgun for those who can't tolerate the recoil of the centerfire versions.
Secondly, the just introduced the SR22, which looks at first glance like a Walther P-22. Now, this one doesn't excite me at all. With the SR name, I wonder why they did not make it a sub-caliber equivalent of their excellent SR9/SR40. It woulda, coulda shoulda been an excellent training pistol for those centerfire pistols. I am sure it will prove to be good Ruger quality, but I think they missed the mark with this one.

Ruger also introduced the SP101 in .22LR. This would be a good choice for those who like a .22 revolver with more heft.

Oh, and I am still waiting for their .22Magnum pistol.

What do you think?
