Two steps forward, one step back

There were three significant steps taken this past week dealing with life and liberty- We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. 

First, in the New York gun case,* the Supremes declared Thursday,  "New York’s proper-cause requirement violates the Fourteenth Amendment by preventing law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their right to keep and bear arms in public." 

As Rob Morse explains over at Slow Facts, many other draconian gun laws may soon be on the chopping block. Already, New Jersey has dropped their “demonstrated a justifiable need to carry a handgun.” requirement.

Secondly, Roe v Wade was overturned Friday, with the Court stating, "Held: The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives."

The court found what is actually in the Bill or Rights (the right to keep and bear arms), and partially negated the half century finding of what wasn't there (the right to privately kill the innocent).

Innocent lives will be saved by these decisions. Many will have life outside the womb that otherwise would not. Many more will be able to legally provide for their own defense against crime; as is already the case in most states.

There are your two steps forward; now here's your one step back:

The “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act” was signed into law. The Dems and quisling Rinos that voted for this know full well this will do nothing to reduce crime. It is simply part of their long range plan to

  1. Ban as many guns as they can
  2. Create as many "Prohibited Persons" as they can

Rest assured, they will come back for more. Considering how swiftly this was passed, it is obvious that Rino Rubio already had it written, and was just waiting for the appropriate crisis to come along. Never let a crisis go to waste.

I guess we will find out how much of it will pass constitutional muster. Is it really within the Constitution to use enhanced background checks for a certain class of people (young adults)?

Will the ATF use provisions of this law for entrapment of the innocent? There seems to be enough vagueness in the law to facilitate that. 

The fight for life and liberty has been going on for ages. It is a never ending power struggle. Churchill's admonition is appropriate here:
